After the defeat from Morocco and the destruction of his chances of winning the World Cup title.. Ronaldo leaves the World Cup in tears

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Cristiano Ronaldo left the Qatar World Cup in tears, as his chances of winning the tournament for the first time in his career were shattered, after his Portuguese team was defeated by Morocco with a clean goal, in the quarter-finals, on Saturday.

Ronaldo was seen accompanying a member of the coaching staff at Al Thumama Stadium to the Portuguese national team’s dressing room immediately after the defeat, and the 37-year-old was unable to hold back his feelings.

This would likely be Ronaldo’s final World Cup appearance, as he started the round of 16 and quarter-finals for Portugal as a substitute, after being benched by coach Fernando Santos.

Ronaldo was brought on early in the second half of Saturday’s game, but to no avail, as Portugal lost to the Atlas Lions thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri’s first-half header.

Ronaldo’s appearance was the 196th of his football career, equal to Kuwait captain Bader Al-Mutawa, in terms of the most appearances in the history of men’s international football.

If this is Ronaldo’s final World Cup appearance, he has certainly made his mark in the tournament over the years.

In his 22 appearances at the finals, Ronaldo has scored 8 goals, and earlier in this year’s tournament, he became the first player to score in five World Cup finals.
